MyDesk Direct Connect

Use this service if you want to connect to your Progressive PC from your personal Windows PC. MyDesk Direct Connect requires that you log in via the MyAccess Portal and your Progressive PC is turned on and connected to the Progressive network. MyDesk can not access a machine stuck at the BitLocker prompt, in Sleep mode, etc.

In summary, only desktop mode Internet Explorer 7 (or newer) on a full (not RT) version of Windows XP (or newer) is supported.

Prerequisites

First Time Setup on Your Personal PC

You will only need to perform these steps once per computer. Once first time setup is complete you can simply follow the directions under Normal Login Procedure below.
Note: This setup is performed on your personal PC, not your Progressive PC.

Before proceeding, ensure you have satisfied all items listed in the Prerequisites section above.

  1. Configure Trusted Sites:

    1. Open the Internet Properties Control Panel:
      1. Click the Start button (typically in the lower left of your screen).
      2. Type inetcpl.cpl in the search box.
      3. Press [Enter].
    2. Click the Security tab, then select the Trusted sites zone and click the Sites button:

      Note: Your icons may look slightly different depending on the version of Internet Explorer you have.
    3. In the Add this website to the zone: box type https://myaccess.progressive.com/ and click Add:
    4. Click Close, then OK.
  2. Go to the MyAccess website:

    • Open Internet Explorer and navigate to https://myaccess.progressive.com/.
      Some tips for accessing Internet Explorer:
      To quickly launch Internet Explorer, click the Start button, type Internet Explorer and press [Enter].
      To jump from Edge to Internet Explorer, click the ••• button in the top right, then click Open with Internet Explorer.
  3. Install and enable ActiveX controls:

    1. On the MyAccess login screen, select the MyDesk service.
    2. Enter your username and password and log in.
    3. You will receive a call from MultiFactor. Answer it and enter your MultiFactor PIN, followed by the pound sign (#) when prompted.
    4. If you see a password prompt at the bottom of the window, click Not for this site:

      Important: You must dismiss this prompt or it will prevent you from completing the setup.
    5. Choose your machine from the list. If your machine name does not show in the list, manually enter in the text box.
      Note: The remote system MUST BE ONLINE or you will not be able to connect to it. Click the Connect button once a machine name has been selected or entered.
    6. The Cisco VPN Relay, an Internet Explorer plug-in, needs to be installed during the first time setup. You will have 20 seconds to initiate this install. If the 20 second time limit is exceeded, you must log off of MyDesk, close Internet Explorer and follow the normal login procedure.
    7. You may see a yellow information bar at the bottom of the window. Click the Install button to initiate the Cisco VPN Relay install. If you DO NOT see the Install prompt shown below, see step h.
    8. If you do not receive the prompt above, you may instead receive a User Account Control prompt on the bottom toolbar. Click on the UAC prompt select Yes to allow the install of the Cisco SSL VPN Relay.

    9. After the plug-in install has been initiated, select Cancel at the Remote Desktop Connection prompt. You will eventually be redirected back to the MyDesk site.
    10. At the MyDesk page, select or enter the machine name and click Connect.
    11. Click Connect at the Remote Desktop Connection prompt:
    12. Login using prog1\LAN ID as the Username and your LAN password in the password field.
      Note: There is a chance you will receive another yellow information bar. If that happens, repeat the instructions starting at the part about the information bar and install or run the second ActiveX control.
    13. If you are returned to the MyDesk Portal again, wait 2 minutes, then close Internet Explorer (if your machine connects now, you're all set!).
    14. Follow the normal login procedure.
      Note: There is a chance you will receive another yellow information bar. If that happens, repeat the instructions starting at the part about the information bar and install or run the second ActiveX control.

      2. Click the search tile.
      3. Type inetcpl.cpl and press [Enter].

    3. In the Add this website to the zone: box type https://myaccess.progressive.com/ and click Add:
    4. Click Close, then OK.
  2. Go to the MyAccess website:

    • Open Internet Explorer and navigate to https://myaccess.progressive.com/.
      Make sure you're using desktop mode Internet Explorer – Metro/Modern/Touch Internet Explorer is not supported:

    1. On the MyAccess login screen, select the MyDesk service.
    2. Enter your username and password and log in.
    3. You will receive a call from MultiFactor. Answer it and enter your MultiFactor PIN, followed by the pound sign (#) when prompted.
    4. If you see a password prompt at the bottom of the window, click Not for this site:

      Important: You must dismiss this prompt or it will prevent you from completing the setup.
    5. Choose your machine from the list, then click the Connect button.
    6. If you receive a Remote Desktop Connection prompt, click Connect:
    7. You will see a yellow information bar at the bottom of the window. Click the Install button:
    8. At this point, you will most likely be returned to the computer list. If you are, select your machine and click Connect again, then click Connect on the Remote Desktop Connection prompt.
    9. You will probably see the User Account Control icon in the taskbar at the very bottom of the screen. If so, click it, then click Yes.
    10. Click Install (the button could also be labeled Run) when prompted:
    11. If you are returned to the MyDesk Portal again, wait 2 minutes, then close Internet Explorer (if your machine connects now, you're all set!).
    12. Follow the normal login procedure.

  2. Fix a known issue Microsoft has identified with Windows XP:

    • Run the Microsoft Fix it program from this page (just follow the instructions in the Fix It For Me section).

    1. On the MyAccess login screen, select the MyDesk service.
    2. Enter your username and password and log in.
    3. You will receive a call from MultiFactor. Answer it and enter your MultiFactor PIN, followed by the pound sign (#) when prompted.
    4. Choose your machine from the list, then click the Connect button.
    5. If you receive a Remote Desktop Connection prompt, click Connect:
    6. You will see a yellow information bar at the top of the window. Click anywhere on the bar, then click Install ActiveX Control or Run (whatever the topmost menu item is):
    7. At this point, you will most likely be returned to the computer list. If you are, select your machine and click Connect again, then click Connect on the Remote Desktop Connection prompt.
    8. Click Install (the button could also be labeled Run) when prompted:
    9. If you are returned to the MyDesk Portal again, wait 2 minutes, then close Internet Explorer (if your machine connects now, you're all set!).
    10. Follow the normal login procedure.
      Note: There is a chance you will receive another yellow information bar. If that happens, repeat the instructions starting at the part about the information bar and install or run the second ActiveX control.

Normal Login Procedure

  1. From Internet Explorer, go to https://myaccess.progressive.com/.
  2. Select the MyDesk service.
  3. Enter your username and password and log in.
  4. Select your computer from the list, click Connect, then click Connect at the Remote Desktop Connection prompt.
    Note: If you do not receive the prompt, see the Troubleshooting section.
  5. Log into your machine.

First-Time Setup Troubleshooting

If you have problems following the first-time setup instructions, please try the following, in order:

  1. Temporarily Lower Internet Explorer Security Level

    1. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
    2. Open Internet Properties (see step 1-a in First Time Setup, above).
    3. On the Security tab, choose Trusted sites, then drag the Security level for this zone slider all the way down to Low and click OK.
    4. Try following First Time Setup again, starting from Install and enable ActiveX Controls.
    5. Important: Once you are done troubleshooting, be sure to change the security level back to Medium!
  2. Temporarily Disable Firewalls

    1. Disable the Windows firewall, then try following First Time Setup again, starting from Install and enable ActiveX Controls.
    2. If you continue to have issues, disable any other firewall software on your machine (Symantec, McAfee, Kapersky, AVG, etc.) and try following First Time Setup again, starting from Install and enable ActiveX Controls. Refer to the vendor's support if you do not know how to disable the product.
    3. Important: Once you are done troubleshooting, be sure to re-enable all firewalls!

Other Troubleshooting

When I try to connect to my machine, I just get a white screen

If you see the compatibility view icon at the end of the address bar, make sure it is blue:
     In other words, if the icon looks like this, click it once and it should look like this .

This can also indicate that trusted sites have not been updated – ensure that you have followed all of First Time Setup.

After connecting to my machine in full-screen mode, there are scrollbars on the window

Disconnect from your machine, then change your Internet Explorer zoom settings to 100%. Zoom is found under the View, Page, or Tools (Gear) menu, depending on which version of Internet Explorer you have.
